Thank you for a beautiful example of positive, life-affirming national pride, I loved reading this. Coming from a corner of Europe where nationalism kind of obliterated the sense of community and pride of our common achievements, I tend to assume this is true for everywhere else--what a preconception! What's more, you truly inspire one to long to visit Mexico.
Thank you for your kind words, Nora. I really hope you come to visit Mexico one day (if you haven't yet) and when you do, that you reach out to me so I can help you plan haha :)
Thank you! When were you in Mexico (and where)? The celebratory culture (and food!) is truly special. I'd forgotten how much it was like this but I also think San Miguel de Allende is even more this way than other towns (and I think their budget is larger for celebrations too haha).
Let's see, 2019 in Mexico City, 2017 in Tulum... 2007? in Cozumel? Can't wait to go back somewhere new eventually. Now I've got someone to tell me where haha :)
Dafne, thank you for such kind words. I'm so happy to hear that this article spoke to you in a special way at the right time. Your comment means so much! ❤️
With each piece you write, Mexico moves higher up my "must visit" list. I loved how you integrated elements of your childhood history class alongside your current travels.
Wonderful, Karla and Noah!! I love "seeing Mexico" through your eyes. You two are truly gifted at sharing and telling stories about your travels... and life. So enjoyable. I'm happy that our paths crossed.
Thank you for such kind words, Rich! We both are very grateful our paths crossed too (we need to meet up again!). And it's also wonderful to see how you embrace and appreciate Mexico the way you do - it means a lot!
Love this!! Friendship love at first sight = two Mexicans finding themselves face to face when the elevator doors opened in a Parisian hotel . From that moment on they knew they would be “hermanitas” and friends for a lifetime! TQM!
Exactly!! You were exactly who I was thinking of in that mention. It was like our souls had found one another and we were the only two Mexicans in the middle Paris. Love you, hermanita!!

I loved this! Made me so nostalgic so to go back. I think it's that celebratory culture that made me fall in love. And obviously the food.
